Commemorates on:5 of September The Prophet Zacharias, son of Barachias, was a priest in the Old Testament. One day, while Zacharias was serving his turn in the Temple in Jerusalem, Archangel Gabriel appeared to him in the altar and told him that his wife would bear a son, named John. When Zacharias doubted the angel’s words due to his and his wife’s old age, Archangel Gabriel told him that he would not speak until the day his son will be born. When the son was born, Zacharias’ mouth was opened and he glorified God.
